Cal the Stoner's creative journey; a heavy rock music story

Planet Zep features Led Zeppelins Swan song logo on one side.

Hundreds of individual hand carved stones join as interlocking pieces to form the depiction of Led Zeppelins famous Swan song logo. Both arms thrown back in sheer abandon. The freedom heavy music releases in its listeners.

Led Zeppelin formed their own music label Swan song in 1974 to release their own music and the music of other artists who weren't having much truck in the traditional music industry.

The Led Zeppelin Swan Song logo is actually based off a sketch by William Rimmer, titled Evening (The Fall of Day),

The original sketch depicts the winged figure of Apollo, rising at sunset into the sky. Apollo is often misidentified as Lucifer, Icarus, or Daedalus.

With a replica of the Gibson EDS-1275 double-necked guitar on the reverse.

Cal's sculptural journey has certainly reflected Led Zeppelins innovative approach to the creation of art.

Only the artist understands how heavy sandstones have been manipulated into a detailed replica of heavy rock musics unique Gibson EDS-1275. A guitar that can produce both heavy and soft sounds simultaneously.

The sculptors attention to detail once again on display.

The cosmic voyage of Cal the Stoner's body of work.

Planet Zep of Galaxy Z the 3rd Intricarved sandstone sculpture Cal the Stoner commenced with a clear final image in mind. The first being Planet Zoz, then 888.

The 11 Intricarved sandstone sculptures prior to this, the images, pictures and lines depicted in an Intricarved sculpture formed organically as the sculpture grew. With Cal following images and lines as they appeared. Stone River; Phoenix & Cat is an example of this process where an image appeared organically within the work. As Cal's sculpting skills grew, the intricacy of details that went into a work followed suit.

Cal sculpts to his customised playlist featuring thousands of tracks from his favourite stoner rock, heavy rock, space and psychedelic rock bands.

The musical background immerses itself within the sculptors creative journey and transforms through his hands into the cosmology of Cal's body of work. Rhythm as ritual. (A close up image of the Gibson's headstock under construction.)

True to Cal's nature, of course Planet Zep holds a key, held in a chest, to a secret chamber made within the sculpture.

Only the one who one day owns this magnificent work will know its secret and hold the key.

Welcome to the unique universe of Cal the Stoner, where the heavy meets the cosmic and details are key.
