Cal is an artisan stonemason with over 30 years of experience specialising in the ancient form of dry stone installation. He learned to love the natural beauty of stone and to recognise and work with its textures and colours. Cal had long held the idea of creating sculptural works. He now sculpts full-time from his open-air sculpture studio in the outback opal mining town of Andamooka, South Australia. From the very first sculpture completed in 2014. Cal continues to work consistently developing his creative process and honing his skills in intricarving.

Stone River #4

Sunlight filters across the myriad colours in the sandstone sculpture Stone River #4

Stone River #4 was commissioned as a permanent outdoor landscape feature wall sculpture and is the sculptor’s largest work. Here you can see the colour changes as the sunlight moves across the wall surface. Stone River #4 is 2.6 metres long, 1.74 metres high and weighs in at approximately 3000 kilograms. It was sculptured over about 12 weeks.
